2 - GRANNY CAMS, VIDEOS, AND SOCIAL MEDIA – WHAT PROVIDERS NEED TO KNOW

Speaker: Todd Selby, JD, Shareholder, Hall Render

Like it or not, a family or resident has or will put a video camera in a resident’s room in your facility. Sometimes they do it secretly, like in a digital photo frame, and sometimes they put them in plain view. This raises major issues – from privacy issues to demoralizing our caregivers. Also, social media is now seen as an activity of daily living for your residents and employees. What concerns and issues exist with social media in your facility? Protection of residents’ privacy rights, and other issues pose unique challenges to the long-term care industry. What policies and practices can you put in place to control granny cams and the social media chaos? What does the law say about it? Should you prohibit granny cams? Best practices and policies?

Target Audience:  CEO/Administrator, DON/Nurse Manager, Resident Services/Social Services, Sales & Marketing, Human Resources, Facilities, Trustees, Residents

3 - WHEN THE ADMINISTRATOR BECOMES THE RESIDENT: PERSPECTIVE FROM THE OTHER SIDE

Speaker: Philip DuBois, CNHA, FACHCA, Adjunct Faculty, Long Term Care Administration - Saint Joseph’s College of Maine

In April, 2007, the speaker’s family was involved in a car accident in which he was seriously injured. He became a skilled rehabilitation resident of his own nursing home for 2 ½ months. He will share observations such as a patient’s perception of quality of care, how the demeanor of the caregiver impacts perception of quality of care, subjective factors that can impact quality scores, and practical aspects of person-centered care from the perspective of someone who has been on both sides.

As a new generation of consumers become age-qualified for senior living options, what do they really think about what communities are selling and marketing? Indications are that the Baby Boomer cohort is “want-driven” which runs counter to many in the industry who have focused on a “need-driven” approach. This session will help senior living providers understand what today’s consumers really want and how to better communicate your offerings to appeal to this audience and achieve greater lead generation and conversions.
