Experience ‘C’: Virtual Reality Competition     0.5 CEUs

Kyle Rand, BS, BSE  |  Cofounder & CEO, Rendever

As the technology with virtual reality continues to improve, so has the catalog of virtual offerings. The most recent development has been the Oculus Quest headsets, ideal for intergenerational populations to compete in a variety of games with different focus from cognitive stimulation, timing, range of motion, and more. As an older adult ages, it can be difficult for therapy staff to engage the resident in activities that seem boring and unchanging. In this experience, attendees will be able to synthesize current therapy activities involving range of motion, balance, hearing, and sight through the usage of a virtual reality competition game.

Session Objectives:

  • Explore physical and occupational therapy benefits to bringing virtual reality into the therapy space.
  • Learn the therapy and quality of life benefits of virtual reality games.
  • Understand the benefits of activity, friendly competition between residents, and engagement between staff and residents.
