2018 Arizona LeadingAge Annual Conference & Expo

THURSDAY, MAY 31

3:15 - 4:15 PM       Breakout Sessions (1 CEU)

With the recent changes to the tax code, the capital landscape for 501c3 communities now looks quite different. Certain finance methods previously available to borrowing communities have been eliminated, which has significantly impacted the economics and practice of borrowing capital. This session will inform the audience all it needs to know about adapting to this new normal.
Train long-term care management what to do in the event of a crisis emergency at the community. Teaches the importance of controlling the flow of information and options for dealing with staff, residents and the media during a crisis. Present 5 real-life situations and how to deal with each. Time built in for interaction and Q&A.
For older adults in senior living communities, the ED presents a host of challenges. Transportation for one — often an expensive ambulance ride is their only choice. Then, receiving care in an unfamiliar environment from unfamiliar people is confusing — this can actually exacerbate the health issue and is amplified for those living with dementia. Additionally, the ED is disruptive and residents don’t like the fuss and lack of privacy; they tend to get embarrassed when the ambulance arrives. That’s where DispatchHealth steps in – it offers residents and care staff a trusted alternative to 911. DispatchHealth is a provider of technology-enabled acute care medicine in the home. Our goal is to create an integrated, convenient, high touch triage and care delivery solution that extends the capabilities of the patient's care team and provides definitive, quality care in the home while decreasing costs. Our skilled providers arrive with the tools necessary to provide advanced medical care and are supported by our technological infrastructure to ensure quality and improve outcomes.
  • Implementing Nurse-Led Quality Initiatives: The Case of the Nurse Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) | Dr. Mattia (Tia) Gilmartin
The NICHE program of the NYU Meyers College of Nursing promotes the use of evidence-based clinical interventions and establishes nurses as leaders to bring about changes in the quality of care delivered to older adults in long term and residential care facilities. The purpose of this session is to describe the NICHE Long Term Care program and discuss implementation strategies to enhance clinical quality and financial performance.
This session will explore Congressional funding for HUD’s federally-subsidized housing and Service Coordinator programs. The session will review the Trump Administration’s funding and policy requests impacting affordable senior housing. The current state of the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program will also be covered, including the impact of 2017 tax reform on Housing Credits. Finally, the session will review Arizona’s federal delegation and its importance to decisions around affordable housing funding and policies.
