SESSION DESCRIPTION

This session is designed to empower nursing home professionals with the knowledge and strategies needed to navigate the top risk areas associated with Immediate Jeopardy citations. Drawing from real-life examples of IJ citations, we'll delve into actionable solutions to prevent these critical citations in facilities.  Part 1  will cover:  Immediate Jeopardy Overview - What is an Immediate Jeopardy (IJ) Citation, Key determinants if a situation rises to the level of an IJ, and trends related to IJ citations and Immediate Jeopardy Related to Accidents - Regulatory requirements, Review of IJ citations related to accidents, Risk assessment & warning signs, and Accident prevention strategies.

SESSION OBJECTIVES

"1\. Recognize the key factors that can lead to Immediate Jeopardy citations in nursing homes. 

2\. Gain the ability to analyze real-life examples of Immediate Jeopardy citations in nursing homes and understand the root causes behind these critical citations. 

3\. Define actionable strategies to prevent Immediate Jeopardy citations. This includes developing comprehensive quality improvement plans, ensuring staff education and compliance, and implementing best practices to maintain regulatory compliance."

Shelly Maffia, MSN, MBA, RN, LNHA, QCP, CHC, CLNC, CPC, is a highly accomplished and experienced professional in the long-term care setting. As a Registered Nurse and licensed Nursing Home Administrator, she brings a wealth of expertise to her work. Shelly's dedication to excellence is evident through her numerous certifications and memberships in industry organizations, including the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC), the National Alliance of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants, the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC), the American Association of Post-Acute Care Nursing (AAPACN), the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), and the Healthcare Compliance Association (HCCA). Shelly's commitment to continual learning and improvement is exemplified by her AANAC's QAPI Certified Professional (QCP) credential, her certification in healthcare compliance through the Healthcare Compliance Association (HCCA), her AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) designation, and her role as an AHIMA approved ICD-10 trainer. Additionally, she serves as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. Currently, Shelly holds the position of Director of Regulatory Services with Proactive Medical Review & Consulting, LLC, where she continues to make a significant impact in the long-term care industry.
